Celebrating birth 19

MY EXPERIENCE – ALBELTA WAMBUA

I checked into the Nairobi Women’s Hospital on Monday 4th 2008, for induction as I was feeling really exhausted at 38 weeks with a lot of anxiety, my labour was induced at about 9.00 am, by 8pm I was 3 cm dilated, and was given medication, the night was calm and manageable. By 9.30 Tuesday I was given syntocinon and by 11.00am, Mokandu was born. Really grateful for God and the staff of the Nairobi Women’s Hospital.

My EDD was on 2 December 2008, on Friday 21st Nov, I was feeling strong as usual had exams the same day which I did without difficulties. Came back home at around 7.30 pm. I started feeling like menstrual cramps. I couldn’t understand what was happening, I talked to my husband about it, but we just ignored since they were not intense, and my EDD was still far, went to bed but at around 4 am I was woken up the same cramp and suspected it was a contraction since it was coming at intervals and they were so painful, I could not even wait for my husband to drive me to hospital. I got a matatu to the nearest health centre, called for a doctor. I was examined and told I had dilated 2 cm and was admitted immediately. The labour was so painful and was told walking could help the baby engaged. So, I walked up and down, I was expected to deliver at 5pm but at 11.35 am our daughter Tamika Achieng was born weighing 3kgs. I thank God for taking me through safe pregnancy and normal delivery.
