My dream is Turning into Reality

My dream is turning into reality

Evelyn Cherono, a System Support Officer based in Nairobi, is one excited lady. Not only is she about to complete her IT degree, she is also going to be a mother! She talked to Elizabeth Ombati.

My husband, Geoffrey Simiyu Kisiangani and I had been together for four years when we felt it was time we brought a little angel to our home. We found it appropriate to get a baby as soon as I was done with my studies.

I had been on contraceptives for quite some time, so the number one step was to annihilate them from my cupboard. This was however, before informing my husband. I had taken to the quark advice that when you stop using contraceptives, it takes you a while to conceive. In February this year. I missed my periods. I did not suspect pregnancy in the least—I believed my body needed time to prepare for a pregnancy.

The shock was slightly bigger than the joy

Then a friend enquired if I had had a breast-enlargement through plastic surgery, as my cleavage looked like a divas. I was flattered. She also suggested that I go for a pregnancy test. It turned out positive! The fact that I had not expected it so soon made the shock slightly bigger than the joy. It slowly dawned on me that I had conceived the moment I did away with the contraceptives!

I was concerned that things were not going as per the blueprint, having in mind that exams were round the corner; they were to be held in mid December. My husband was equally surprised, taking into account that I had not told him that I had stopped using contraceptives. He actually did not believe it at first. I had to show him the pregnancy-test slip.

Changed life

At five months, three weeks pregnant, (at time of interview) I sometimes still forget that I am pregnant. My only bother is morning sickness. I hate the taste of toothpaste but I must brush my teeth. I have developed a tendency to eating large meals and I am now a size 14, from size 10. Additionally, I am eating healthy thus do not need to take supplements, something that would have been a requirement had I not improved on my diet.

Cravings

Cold milk, cold milk and more cold milk—even when it is very chilly. The milk does wonders for me.

Best moments

The thought that I will be a mother. I want to be the best mum.

Worst moments

Waking up in the morning is difficult. The First four months were almost unbearable. The other bit is juggling between school, a job and pregnancy. No wonder my husband is concerned.

Ante-Natal

I started attending ante natal clinics about a month ago. My husband being a doctor had his rounds begin with me one fine day. His professional eye has kept me at ease. So far, I have not encountered any complications. I have already started saving because I want my baby to find me prepared.

EDD

My EDD is on 7th November 2008 and I have never been more expectant in life. I desire a natural delivery. All my sisters have had successful natural deliveries, and the gene factor pre-empts that I should follow suit.

I want my best friend to be my birth partner. I have not discussed this with my husband though.
