Lillian Okomo-Once smitten twice eager

How did it feel when you found out you were expectant? Was it planned or was it a surprise?
I knew I was when I missed my period, regardless of them being very irregular. I just felt differently. So I bought a pregnancy test kit which showed two lines after the test. I was very excited to be carrying baby two – after my 2-year-old. Perfect timing, just as we had planned.

Is it a prince or a princess?
I have a feeling it is a prince. All my friends are guessing that because my belly is like squash ball (talk of tales). But you know what, whichever sex, all I need is a healthy bouncing baby.

Do you have the ‘special name’ thing going?
Yes we do, for both genders. But they keep changing every time. My son has already named the baby-I hope he won’t be disappointed. My grandmother wants me to name the baby after her so much that she keeps praying it is a girl. I love her so much I don’t mind doing that. So let’s wait and see. But at least we have short-listed what we want.

What have your grand moments been?
When my 3-year-old son is bonding with the baby. He wants to kiss my tummy every time. He asks, ‘Mummy is baby playing now?’ I love the kicks. I also love shopping. If I had a lot of money I would shop, shop and shop everyday for my babies. Their tiny clothes are just too sweet!

And what’s the worst part of it?
Heart burns-not interesting. I can’t eat much as I always feel like throwing up. The bulk has also been an issue in the third trimester. But it has not been that bad after all.

Is your current pregnancy different from the first one?
With my first one, you could hardly tell I was expectant until the end of my fourth month. I never had any morning sickness. The most I felt was light headedness for about an hour one day.

This time around my first trimester saw me so lightheaded I could barely concentrate. Mornings were just not working because I would throw up then feel sleepy for the next three hours. It was terrible!

Now I can’t seem to keep a grip on anything and I feel starved and dehydrated all the time. I’ve started waking up in the middle of the night, every night, to pee and just turn on the bed. None of this happened in round one-at least until I was almost giving birth.

As for the size, my tummy has been weird. When I was just less than three months pregnant, I looked six months gone. Maternity clothes have therefore been an issue this time. But I have managed.

My friends say that I’m not moody compared to my first pregnancy. They say say I’m happier. I am not very sure about that.

A Beautiful revelation you have gotten from this pregnancy?
You need support. It is a nice feeling to know you are bringing a new life into this world. And it is my hope that my husband and I will bring our children in the way of the Lord and for God to provide for us.
