My Experience

My due date was in April 26th 2008 and interesting enough. That’s the same night I started to labour. I got my first pains at 3pm and decided to go to hospital immediately. I got admitted in hospital at 5am and that’s when my water broke. At this stage, my labour pains weren’t so bad. By 11am, I had only dilated 2cm. That is when the doctor decided to put me on oxygen drip. That’s when I saw serious pain. I laboured till 4pm and still had only dilated 2cm. That’s when the doctor decided I had to undergo emergency ceaserean section. I was so scared but I prayed every minute. God was with me every step of the way. The nurses prepared me for the theatre, and at 6.15pm my baby son Baraka Waihenya was born weighing 3kg. Seeing him for the first time was so special and he was worth every pain that I was through. I love him so so much!

My Experience – Phyllis Nyambura Maitha

I experienced period like cramps that were regular and bearable on Thursday, Aug.14,2008 which was my EDD. By midday, the cramping had stopped completely and i kept walking around the house and our compound. I called the doc and he advised we see him on Saturday 16,Aug.2008. On that day, I woke up so early since my night was very long that we had to wait for the Doc to arrive. We were admitted at 11am and the nurse attempted to sweep the membranes of the cervix so that I would get induced if my waters broke. I was then inserted a vaginal dose of prostaglandum tablet twice which did not assist after observation. By 8pm, I started experiencing story contractions and and would not ever sweep after watching ” Pink Panther”. I kept walking to and go to the toilet. The nurses suggested they inject with a painkiller when they did, my husband arrived and kept me company. By Sunday Aug.17,2008 my cervix had not ripened. My family including my gran.brother suggested that I go through the C-cesarean which was not my preference. By 4 pm a decision was made since the pain was not bearable .At 7.36pm a baby boy Kyle was born and I slept there after.
