Anything for Jayden

‘I delivered Jayden Kibagendi through C-s on 2 June last year. He weighed a healthy 3.4 Kgs,’ says Portia Gaceri. She tells Pregnant more.

Then I had to find my bearing as a new mother. I had so much to learn; from changing his diapers, to holding him properly, to laying him to sleep—I was so green! Breastfeeding was another challenge, as I never had milk for the first few days. When it finally came, my nipples cracked. It was terribly painful when Jayden suckled. The support from my mother-in-law and my husband, however, made it easier for me to navigate the unfamiliar territory.

Feeding

I am yet to establish Jayden’s feeding pattern since he is still quite unpredictable when it comes to eating. Nevertheless, I strive to let him have the best meals, and I make sure he gets full.

Best moments

I love bathing, feeding MM playing with Jayden. I also love watching his keen interest in TV adverts. Some of them make him literally stop what he is doing. He gets so attentive that he looks like a serious client checking out for a particular product to nail his deal. What intelligence! Jayden is also jovial and playful and thus he gets along with people.

The most amazing thing about being his mother is that every day I realize my priorities come last—trailing after my baby’s.

Back to work

It was quite difficult to find a reliable house-help with whom to leave my son. That gave me some anxiety when I went back on duty. I had to make a point of calling home to make sure things were in order. However, my worry lifted because, apart from the good house-help that I got later on, my sister-in-law, Ruth, was also in the house. That gave me the reassurance that Jayden was in safe and reliable hands.

I am very grateful for Ruth’s presence at home, as it has given me enough peace to concentrate on my work.

Scare

One of my fears is an illness. Thankfully, Jayden has been a healthy child. My prayer and hope are that the situation stays that way.

Fears aside, I want him to grow in favor of God and be a respectful man. I plan to have one more child.
