First Word 33

You have to give it to them-women are among the strongest beings on earth. Any mother will tell you the process of carrying a life to term can overwhelm even the most determined of souls. Motherhood is one of those beautiful experiences in life that many want to be part of.

That is why it was said, the love of a mother represents all the beautiful virtues that we, human beings, hold sacred-kindness, patience, forgiveness, compassion. And perhaps the greatest, sacrifice: the willingness to surrender her time, her dreams, her life for the sake of her child.

In this issue, Pinky Ghelani, who is now on her second trimester of motherhood, lets us in on how it has been so far. Wibroda, Kenya’s queen of comic, commonly known as Jacquey off-the-screen, says it in another way altogether. Susan Saningo hardly leaves a stone unturned as she unravels her take on the gift of being a mum. In ‘Been There’ column, you will see the beauty of motherhood in its different dimensions.

Now, that does not mean we have shoved the men under the sand. ‘On a fatherly note’, Luci Simiyu’s ‘Upper Room’ column reveals their importance in the most special way. Men are, more- often-than-not, the silent pillars that anchor motherhood at all of its stages and fortify it with special strength that is only gotten from their masculine nature. If your man is walking the talk, promise to tell him just that.
