Stretchmarks – Question and Answer

With an expectant Angela Mukiri

When was the first time you discovered you had stretch-marks?
While I was a teenager, I discovered stretch-marks on my arms and thighs but did not mind them, because they were a shade lighter than my skin tone. There was none on my abdomen.

At what stage of pregnancy did you notice more stretch-marks?
In my third trimester when I was 33 weeks pregnant I noticed that I was developing big, black lines, but had not known what they were.

What was your reaction on sighting them?
I was so shocked I cried! I asked my husband whether he had seen them. He said he had. but did not know what they were.

Have you tried to get rid of them?
Yes! I am now using my lotion very faithfully. I do not forget to apply It every morning and evening.

Do you think they will disappear?
I do not know. My hope and prayer is that they will become Invisible— because they are so ugly! But as for now, they seem to be getting bigger, darker and thicker as my pregnancy advances to the last stages.

Who else knows you have the stretch-marks?
My work-mates and some of my friends. I talk to people about it because, first, I need to ease the psychological stress caused by the stretch marks and secondly, I want to caution the expectant mothers on the repercussions of not applying lotions, creams and oils as a preventative measure against the hideous stretch marks.

Given a chance for a body make-over or a surgery, would you opt for the removal of stretch-marks?
I would not have them removed by surgery, but would agree to any other means. I hate them! If I knew anything that would make them disappear— even now, I would not hesitate to use It

What are your worst fears about stretch marks?
That they will never disappear. I also fear that they might spread all over my stomach. I wish I could get back my beautiful blemishless tummy after I deliver my baby.

What myths have you heard about stretch-marks?
Some people say that stretch-marks will not disappear. I believe mine will. I know they are here only because my skin needs to make room for my growing baby.
