Shy Moments 27

When I started to push while in labour, I felt like I needed to go to the little ladies room and release a few deposits. When I asked the midwife to let me, she refused saying it was the baby’s head that was starting to show. But knowing what I felt, I kept shouting, “I have to goooooo. “She only kept explaining that it was the baby’s head and stood her ground.
Finally, the midwife gave me a drug to help me relax after the doctor stuck his head into the room and shouted, ‘Would someone please take her to the toilet!” Was I that loud?

I have always opted to seat at the back of the matatu because I have a phobia for front seats. So going to town one time, I get into the matatu and head for my favorite seating position at the back-only to be stopped short on my tracks. I hadn’t realized how big I had grown. No matter how hard I tried I could not make my way to the back between the seats that were already occupied. “Mama, si ukuje ukae hapa mbele” (Mum, came and sit at the front?) a man says respectfully opening for me the door. I was already too embarrassed, having attracted a lot of attention, to decline the offer. My ride to town was surely the longest.

All through, my pregnancy, I became very forgetful. Once, I lost my cellphone for days and I even didn’t think of calling it! I looked for it all over to no avail. After days of searching for it unsuccessfully, I got depressed due to the loss. Then someone called while I was making dinner and I heard it ringing. I tracked the noise and found it…in the fridge! No one has let me live down this one yet!

I got up one morning late for work and felt totally disorganized. My well advanced bump making it worse. I did my usual rituals; a shower, a bite for breakfast and bid my husband farewell. When I got to work, I noted my left shoe felt a little weird. I quickly disregarded it thinking that it was just another hormonal issue. Right before lunch, I reach under my desk to throw something in the waste-paper basket. It is then that I noticed that though my shoes were of the same colour, they were different! No wonder one felt a little weird-actually the heel was slightly higher. Most of the work was done from my desk. The lunch was ordered in as well.
