Pregnant Makeover 16

HER EXPERIENCE
The News
‘It was not just any other phone-call. My husband and I were home relaxing when the phone rang. As the big news was being relayed, I could not immediately contain my joy, it was such a welcome surprise. My ecstatic screams amused my husband: he thought they would disturb the baby! I could not help it. I was to get a free make-over, not to mention the goodies that would accompany it.

The makeover came at the right time for me. It is only natural to occasionally feel unattractive during pregnancy—bloated cheeks, neck, lips, nose, fat ankles and unsightly stretch-marks: unfitting clothes, and the realization that you may never be a size ten again. This is enough to make your not long ago unshaken confidence take a nose dive. I knew this makeover was going to do wonders to my entire being, and I could not wait. I was so excited.

Could it be Luck?
My baby is due on the 7th of December. My birthday also falls on the same day. I cannot help but feel that this is a sign of great things to come. I do not know the sex of my angel, but just like the stars, I know my baby’s future will be bright.

My Baby
I am going through an epidural come the day of delivery. I am thoroughly scared of labour pains. My spouse has encouraged me to go for Lamaze classes in the hope that I may change my mind, but pushing is something I do not want to do.

To my Husband
He is the sweetest man on earth. This may sound cliche but I thank God for him. ‘Hubby. Thank You for nominating me. Sometimes you do not know you are the best until someone tells you so. Every detail in your nominating letter is kept together with the other treasures you have given me before. And the least I can do now Is to continue looking beautiful for you!

TERRY’S SURPRISE WIN
The Pregnant Magazine Make-over is a competition in which a husband or friend nominates a pregnant woman for the Make-over by writing to Pregnant, giving reasons why the pregnant woman should be the winner of the Make-over.

Selection of the winner, which was conducted in early August 2008, was based on the detail, passion and objectivity expressed by the person nominating their loved one.

Jude, husband to the winner, Terry Chore, met the criteria in an exceptional way. making his wife the first woman in Kenya to win this competition.

Pregnant is in the business of magnifying affirmative aspects of ‘expectancy’ to the point of overshadowing the warped preconceived ideas on the same.

It is in this light that Pregnant counts it an honour to play a role in peeling off prejudiced notions about pregnant mothers as being simply heavy with child, and to reveal the strength, beauty and insight that are. actually, about an expectant woman.

On 22nd August 2008 Pregnant Magazine’s Make-over event happened. It included a photo shoot, one of the basic ways in which Pregnant is enlightening women and their spouses with the truth that being pregnant does not erode a woman’s femininity—if anything, it enhances it. So eating right, exercising, attending ante natal and post-natal clinics, and generally being informed, should bring the best out of a pregnant mother.’

The Winning Letter

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would first like to say, greetings and good day to you.
My name is Jude and I would like to nominate my wife to be featured in the fashion pages of your pregnant magazine.

Words fail me at times in terms of describing my wife. She is the most beautiful, sensitive, sweet being I have ever met. Anytime am down, she raises my spirits. She has the right words to say to calm down a situation. In a nutshell, she is a whole package, wrapped, signed and delivered and I wouldn’t trade her for anything.

It is our first baby and we are very excited. With the excitement comes a lot of worry and concern. You want the best for your child but also pray that you can provide considering that raising a child in this harsh world just seems difficult if not impossible.

We believe that the best will come. Currently, she is 16 weeks pregnant and I’m relieved that mood swings have reduced.

I always wish the best for my wife. I love her a lot and will always make an effort to ensure our marriage works.

At this juncture, what we are wishing for is a positive response from you. The feature would do her a lot of good, lift her spirits and make her feel like the queen she is. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Her name is Terry Chore and her contact number is 00000.
Thank you for taking time to listen to us.

Sincerely,
Jude.
