Oh … the joy!

After trying in vain to conceive for a year, Daisy Ojijo could not wait to tell her husband when she discovered she was pregnant. She shares her experience with Pregnant.

Can’t wait… For the baby’s arrival and to resume my hobbies e.g. traveling. I had to give up partying late into the night and of course, miss my clothes!

We are pregnant!
In late October last year, my periods were late by a day, which was quite unusual as they were always very punctual. I guess I was also very anxious considering we had tried to get pregnant for about a year with no success. I bought a home pregnancy kit and it turned out positive! I called my husband immediately and he was as elated as I was!

The cravings come and go. The most unusual one for me was fish (whole tilapia). Waking up at dawn to “dismantle” the head of fish meticulously was a bit over the top. My husband was alarmed. Normally, this is his preserve. Also, I can’t stand smells, especially strong lotions, and perfumes and I’ve had to change to something mild. I hold my breath whenever I’m in an elevator!

Changes
I go out less often and love my own company more. With the growing bulge, my body size is now changing. My husband and friends feel I have grown more beautiful and that I am more fashion conscious! Emotionally, I get broody too often these days. There are people I just do not like to see at all.

I have had to suspend some of the work because earlier in the pregnancy, I was put on strict bed rest due to some complications.

Been there

This is my third baby. Ryan, our firstborn, and Kyle turns three this April. There are almost three years between them. They can be quite a handful sometimes, especially Kyle.

Every pregnancy is different. Both my previous pregnancies were very smooth, especially Ryan’s. I can’t say the same for this particular one. I think medicine is an inexact science.

The first trimester was really tough going for me. I remember having to contend with bleeding and severe vomiting. The worst part was listening to different opinions before I knew what the problem was. It turned out to be a weak uterus, leading to the recommendation of strict bed rest for me.

Moments to treasure
The ultrasounds where I get to see her. I also love shopping for the baby.

I could do without…
The incessant pains and sometimes, headaches. Being on bed rest is not funny either!

Bleeding during my first trimester was quite scary and I almost thought I was going to have a miscarriage! I have something for C-Sections so I pray for normal delivery.

My plans
I do not plan to have another baby after this one. I am enjoying the experience as much as possible. I have already bought most of the clothes for the baby and now plan to decorate the baby’s room. As for the names, Hawi is Luo for Luck. We tried for a long time for this baby. When we finally succeeded, we were almost on the verge of giving up.
We believe it was by sheer luck and the abundance of God’s blessings, hence this name.
