Jacinta Chege – I have really changed!

How did you discover you were expectant?
We had not been together for a month. When we did, the excitement was very high, and I got the hunch that I had conceived A week later, I experienced an unusual backache. When my periods did not come at the regular time. I went for a test which confirmed what I suspected We had been trying for five months, with all the results coming negative I am now that pregnant woman that I have been ogling at on the street.

What has changed so far?
I have become very emotional When my husband and I get into a disagreement, I almost always burst into tears It is as if my tear ducts are closer now.

Eating habits
My appetite was low in the first trimester. I actually realised this in the second and now the third trimester that sees me eating too much. I wake up at 5am for heavy breakfast. I take another portion accompanied with fruits at 9am. The rest of the day’s meals are well-attended to, not to mention the fruits that I savour between the meals.

Social life
I have new friends, most of whom are young mothers Other than that, I am enjoying VIP treatment—no more queuing at the banking hall.the matatu’s front door being opened for me, and the like. It is humbling how people treat a pregnant woman.

Dressing
What do you expect of a tummy so big7 The dressing style has completely changed. No more fitting skirt-suits and tight jeans. I now keep going back to shop for different fittings.

Do you like, the changes?
Yes, I do. I look and feel more mature.

What has your husband say about the new you?
First, he is ecstatic about confirming that he is fertile; that he is going to be a father. He says he cannot wait to see his child.

Something crazy he said was that he never thought I could spend the whole day at home and that he feels proud and great to provide everything I demand.

Have you had a trying moment?
Oh yes. There was this time I attended our friend’s wedding and I had really psyched up for the evening party. Some discomfort cut short my party-mood as I had to go and nurse it at home, as my friends partied

What’s your favourite bit about this pregnancy?

Have you had any scares?
Giving birth is the greatest scare, especially because it is my first time. I’m praying much and trusting God for a natural and safe delivery. I believe it will be well with me.

What plans do you have for the baby?
