First Word 32

The year began with lots of sunshine, some mounds of dust and sweaty brows. That was cleaned by splashes of the long desired rain. The showers have lessened since; and the cold is now contemplating to express itself fully.

So much about the weather. Standing in the middle of the year, we have a view of conquered times: the drought, crazy power bills and even excess produce. We also have a view of the not-so-clear expectations like: who exactly the baby will look like, whether their first words will be ‘mama’ or ‘papa’, and which side the ‘Life’ campaign will fall on.

You will agree that the passionate unrelenting demands from the two sides of the debate about the ideal reproductive climate for the Kenyan woman have had a trickling down effect onto you and I. Generally, the thunder-packed opinions seem to say a common thing; that the opposing parties highly care for the woman—only in different dimensions. The question that begs, however, is, ‘What exactly is her healthiest way forward?’

Pregnant is crazy about Life. We are eager to see LIVELY faces with smiles that reach the eyes—on Madam Mum, her Baby and Daddy too. That is why the pages that follow are arrayed with the likes of health, beauty, nutrition, reflections, humour—all of which are known to midwife Life.

We allow divas, Achieng Abura and Habida Moloney, to play their own renditions of the mothers’ ageless song,  ‘My beautiful meeting with Life’. Their notes are ringing in the Been There and Mja Mzito columns, respectively.

It’s a GREAT LIFE!
