Fighting Boredom Expectantly

What do you do when you find yourself at a place called idle, heavy and out of it? Run? But then you are too heavy. Hide? If only you could but you can barely bend to dry/lotion your feet. Scream? Oh no, you cannot afford to wake those peaceful asleep-at-last toddlers that give you a run for your energy. What then? Relax. Slip into that comfortable couch, sit on that inviting step, or maybe stroll to the balcony and get a literal breath of air.

Pregnancy is often tough, especially where changing moods are concerned. Responsibilities don’t go away—if anything, they increase as your mobility and ability to perform simple tasks wanes. Yet often, expectant women find themselves idle and bored. One would think ‘good for them’ but many of them beg to differ. Joanne, a mother of two and a clerk in the purchasing department of a multinational organisation has this to say:

‘When I was expecting my daughter, I was surrounded by people who were more than willing to help. They took over all chores in my rather huge house and I often found myself with nothing to do at home. It was a pretty similar situation at work. I could not do my nails let alone bend.’

That drove Joanne slowly into a place called ‘Idle’. Soon, she would find herself so bored she would get depressed. Sometimes, she would just sit at her backyard and stare at the beautifully manicured lawn without seeing beauty. She was very bored.
