Celebrating birth – Valentine package

Kellan Bothu
I was 29 weeks along when I got strange pains and started bleeding. We got to the hospital at around 9.30pm, and had a two-hour wait for the doctor who was busy in theatre. Meanwhile the nurses carried out tests and confirmed that my baby was okay.

As soon as the doctor came, they checked my uterus trying to establish why I was bleeding – now heavily. It’s at this point that the doctor confirmed that I was actually in the process of delivering and had already dilated 9 out of the 10cm required.

Long story short, Kellan our own valentine’s gift, was born in the next few minutes weighing 1.4 kilos and with a clean bill of health. We had to stay in the hospital for three weeks (he at the nursery) until he got to 1.8 kilos. We thank God for him.

Luke Warui
Luke is my third child and his birth was anticipated by all of us in the Warui home. He was almost a week past his due date. And his brothers after seeing how huge my tummy had become, were already telling him to come out of mum’s tummy.

We had decided we were going to let labour begin on its own after attending a childbirth education class at The Childbirth Consultancy done by a very able childbirth educator, Carol Welime. This time round, my husband and I were confident we were going to take the process of labour as it unfolds without too much intervention.

Labour began on the 14th of February and I laboured at home till the contractions were less than 5 minutes apart and were lasting for a 90 seconds. We got to hospital about 6pm and by 6:45pm, Luke had been born.

The midwives were really fast and efficient I thank God for the grace and favour.  He showed us during the pregnancy, labour and even after the delivery of our baby.
