11 months in my mother’s womb

Janet’s* story may seem unreal lo many people. It’s strange for a fact, but it did happen.

It all started when her mother got pregnant. As their mother was to tell her Janet was born two months after her EDD. Janet’s mother had intended to stop having children, something she had discussed with her husband. They knew that that chapter was closed.

It happened then that she started using contraceptives. Wonders never cease, humans tend lo believe in the power of something as little as a pill so much. So with the confidence of a bull lighter, Janet’s mother was good to go—no more children.

Then came a time when Janet’s mother was to travel abroad and represent her company in an overseas trip. It is only natural that before travelling, some medical tests are carried out.

So it happened that Janet’s mother was pregnant. This was a shocker alright, given that she was actually six months pregnant. This meant that the trip was a no-no. Upon further medical check-ups, the doctors advised that she had an abortion. Now, this was unacceptable, unpalatable to her ears. She was adamant even after being told that the baby may not survive: she declined to abort, and so Janet’s life was saved.

Now at six months pregnant, about three more were left for the baby to make its arrival. Her mother was so eager to deliver, and so come the last month, the waiting seemed interminable. And the father-to-be would make countless trips to the hospital only to find that the baby had not arrived. The EDD came and passed, with no signs of labour. Everyone was worried, but the doctors promised that when the baby was ready to come, she would.

And so after two months, the baby was ready to be born, She had stayed a total of eleven months in her mother’s womb. Everyone had wondered, joking that the baby had found honey in the womb. No one has ever understood how she could be in the womb for eleven months and still survive. It is no wonder that everyone thinks she is a miracle baby.                                                                                                                      *Not real name.
