First Word 28

I am slouched on my seat thoroughly tired, wondering what has worn me out and where the year, now past, has slipped to. This year’s achievements are hardly on my desk; not in my purse either or among my accolade collections. But considering how I feel, I long to show something for it.

I let my eyes rest on my laps. And yes, I finally see something to attribute to the year gone by. On my laps are hands with more creased knuckles; the veins look fuller. I can hardly remember my nails growing past their current length, and the skin generally has less luster. I can’t help but smile-not about the evident ageing but at the fact that I have evidence of a year well spent. This year my hands have been on the rampage-cooking, cleaning, lifting and carrying; typing and clicking, writing, and indicating instructions. Especially so that the vision of every member of my household is taken to the next level. Therefore, looking around, there is A LOT to show for the many months gone by. What a feeling!

If you are pregnant, I guess unlike me you are not wondering where your months went to. When you look at the full length mirror, it is clear that you have a lot to show for the year. You see a harder than usual belly containing something that …yes, makes you smile. A being inside you that likes to poke your belly with pretty tiny feet once in a while. If I am right, should there be nothing else that you can pat yourself on the back for , this is it!

Pregnant is making a big deal out of your year’s achievement. Upper Room column has your ‘9 FAITH-ful thoughts’ for the little being in you-one for each of the nine months. There is also something special It‘s a Pregnant World column: ‘Where the children play’. It is an interesting perspective of how your one is having a ball as we speak.
