Shy Moments 29

Boy Food
I went to a local fast food place with my husband when I was about 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. The cashier asked me what I was having and I replied, ‘A boy.’ My husband clearly amused, chuckled and whispered to me, ‘they don’t serve those here.’

The Blow
It had been a tedious day in the office and my being seven months expectant was not making it easier. So by the time I was going to sleep, I was extremely beaten. In a split second I was engaged in an exchange with a colleague who has always been rubbing me the wrong way. It got so bad that she threatened to hit me. I dared her. And a blow came rushing for my tummy. Before I could take cover, I felt it! ;My baby – my baby!’ I whimpered. ‘Honey are you okay?’ my hubby checked. As he helped me sit up, my face was hot with the tension from the nightmare. The impact I felt was actually the baby’s kick. Anyway, we ended up laughing at the coincidence and concluded that I was going to clear the bile with my colleague the following day.

Laughs and leaks
My husband and I went out for a movie when I was six months pregnant. Shortly after the show, we stood in line as we waited for a large group of people at the lobby to clear away. Suddenly, I remembered something funny in the movie and I started to giggle away. However, with every laugh, I felt small amounts of liquid flowing down my legs. The really weird thing is that the more I felt it coming out, the more I laughed! I thought it was so ridiculous. Finally, I let my husband in on the joke, and of course he didn’t think it was funny. We hurried to the car, and I had to look for a paper to place my wet behind on to avoid soiling the brand new leather seats.

Tummy Business
During my eight month, I went for a small tea party at my friend’s house. As the ladies and I got chatty in the process, my friend’s four year old son who is a picky eater had been confined at the dining table to finish his dinner before he could join his friends and cousins for play. I caught him staring at me a number of times – which I returned with winks, smiles, blown kisses, and he would quickly look down to his plate. The mum interrupted our communication saying, ‘Jude, you are not leaving that table with your tummy empty!’
‘But mum…I really don’t want my tummy that big. I’m scared,’ he shouted pointing at me. All our jaws dropped for a moment. Then the house rumbled with laughter.
