Delve in with us.

When the “Oh my God” moment occurs, go to the nearest bathroom and remove any urinary incontinence pads, adult diapers, or other absorbent pads you may be wearing.

Clean your skin gently with mild soap and water or mild towel swipes that are gentle to the skin. Dry the skin thoroughly.

If the skin is flushed (red) or feels irritated, apply a gentle, odorless moisturizer, if the skin irritation develops into a rash, apply a fungicidal ointment, spray or cream to dear out a possible infection. However, always seek a medical consult before doing this. Wear a fresh pad or an adult diaper. If your clothes happen to be soiled, put on some fresh clothing. Always remember to have these (extra clothing) with you wherever you go.

Cleaning up
Now that you are sand dry, you can focus on cleaning items that may have been soiled, and now the smell of urine.

Wash clothing and bed linen immediately, but if you can’t, keep them in a container with a tight lid, like a bucket. Add baking soda or white vinegar to the wash water to help remove the odor. Material washed with white vinegar may need additional rinsing.  If the items are made of polyester, you may have to dispose of them because urine odor is hard to remove from this fabric. Clean carpet and upholstery with a relatively good commercial cleaner or blot up and sponge the area with clean water.

Apply an ammonia solution and blot again then apply a mild detergent mixed with lukewarm water. After this, sponge the area with fresh water allowing it to soak up and then dry.

Remember to clean your hands with soap and water after cleaning up an incontinence moment. To prevent the spread of odor or disease, place soiled disposable items in a garbage bag and place them with your regular garbage.

When you have done all you can to clean up the stain and remove the odor, you can spray an air freshener to give the room a sweet smell or to mask odor that is persistent.
