Folic Acid and Ferrous Sulphate Tablets
I am 29 weeks pregnant. Is it proper to take folic acid and ferrous sulphate tablets at this time, until delivery? I took them until I was four months pregnant and stopped, they really helped. Please advice.

There is no problem in taking iron supplements in pregnancy. In fact it is highly recommended. Folic acid is usually recommended before pregnancy and in the first trimester to prevent problems with formation of the spine. There is also physiological anaemia of pregnancy due to hormonal influences. To overcome this, it is healthy to take folic acid and ferrous sulphate supplements throughout pregnancy. It also helps in lactation and preparation towards it. Continue taking them till the end of your pregnancy, and even after, during lactation.

Strange sensation in my heart

I am six months pregnant and this is my first pregnancy. I have been having a strange sensation in my heart, even when I am seated in a relaxed position. My heart suddenly starts to race fast-like it would if was being chased or frightened. When this happens I have to take a deep breath for it to beat normally. Is there an explanation for this, an is it a threat to my baby?

Pregnancy brings with it metabolic demands. This causes the heart to beat faster. When this heartbeat is felt, your heart races, and you may get breathless. Going outside in the open or near a window (if stuck indoors) and taking in deep breaths helps. Regular and moderate exercise, good nutrition and the right posture will also be helpful. Seek further help and counseling from your antenatal clinic.

Yellow discharge
I am seven months pregnant and I am experiencing a lot of yellow discharge. Is it normal? Do I need to be on medication? Which medicine should I use to stop this?

In pregnancy, there is an increase in vaginal discharge and this is expected. Normal discharge however, is colorless and does not have a full smell. Yellow discharge is usually a sign of infection and needs medical attention. Normally, a high vaginal swab is taken to the lab and cultured so as to identify the infection and ensure that proper treatment is given. Because of the pregnancy, you should be careful about the medication you take.

Is same blood group a problem?
I am not pregnant but intend to be soon. My fiancé and I have the same blood group(O positive). Is it going to be a problem?

You are fortunate to have the same blood group as your spouse, because you are less likely to have any blood related problems. A problem arises when the has a negative blood group and the father has a positive blood group. The same blood group reduces the livelihood of the incompatibility . However, remember that there are minor blood groups which could still create slight differences. The more compatible the blood groups are the better for your pregnancy.
