Bags, Bags & BAGS

With the latest fashion and trends, it is increasingly apparent that many women- especially those looking forward to more space for baby stuff, are going for the bigger bags-even if they mean more clutter.

Nonetheless, before the baby comes, the size, colour and style of your handbag are a big give-away when it comes to letting us know who you are. Research shows that bright colours tend to belong to fun loving, friendly and approachable people who can strike a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Those who choose neutral, classic colours like black and brown are likely to be more reserved and may appear less approachable.

Whatever your style, remember to accessorize your bag according to your outfit and body type. The following five types of bags are essential to compliment any attire.

Classic handbag
These are medium sized purses that are adequate for carrying essentials like a wallet, a phone and a bit of make up. However, they are not large enough to accommodate items for a full day out. The straps are carried by the hands and not swung over the shoulder. They are strong and ‘evergreen’, and can be used for virtually any purpose. They accessorize a skirt, a dress or casual pants perfectly.

Tote bag
These bags, also known as carry bags, are used to hold numerous things that are too many to fit in a purse. They are mostly made of soft and cushy leather though they can be found in almost any material. They are found in many patterns and colours but most women go for the neutral colours like black and grey which can blend with any outfit. They have long handles and can be swung over the shoulder.

Clutch
This small purse, which is hand held throughout, has seen the return of earlier glamour and fashion. Due to its miniature nature, it can hold limited contents and thus is only suited to specific occasions like dinners and weddings.

Wristlet
Though they are small in size, they serve two functions-they can be their own purse and if they are connected to a larger bag with a chain, you can also keep your more valuable items there.

Over-the-shoulder bag
These are bags that are large enough to be worn over the shoulder or across the chest and are ideal for circumstances where you need to keep both hands free, for another purpose, for instance, when mothers are pushing strollers. One classic example of this is a knapsack bag.

Things to carry in the handbag

  • Cell phone-Ensure that it is fully charged when you leave the house, to avoid the extra burden of carrying the charger
  • A small umbrella-You and your unborn baby will need protection in case the down pour catches you unawares
  • Wallet-Never ever leave home without it
  • Pressed powder-to keep your skin looking good all day
  • Wet tissues-for basic hygiene
  • Coin purse-this is handy for your transactions
  • Lip balm-for great looking lips all day
