What is eclampsia?
Question: What is eclampsia?
Response from Doctor ‘P’
Let us start from the beginning by defining pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia, also known as toxemia of pregnancy, is high blood pressure accompanied by protein in the urine (proteinuria) or retention of fluid, edema that occurs in pregnancy from 20 weeks to the end of the first week after delivery.
Eclampsia is a more severe form of pre-eclampsia that results in seizures, convulsions, or coma.
As is the norm with pregnancy, never take any chances. Should you feel even a little uncomfortable, consult your doctor. High blood pressure is not uncommon in pregnancy.
