First Word 17

Hi!

What does it take for twins to get pregnant during the same period? How does it feel to have someone close to you get pregnant at the same time as you? It is quite amazing that a couple can try for months or years to get pregnant, without much luck, yet two friends or twins may just conceive without even planning to. When identical twins get pregnant in this manner, it is even more intriguing.

When I was pregnant with my second child, my aunt who was just a few years older than I got pregnant too. She was like a sister to me; she had lived with my family for quite a while during and after her high school. She was pregnant with her third baby.

Coincidentally, we both had not planned to conceive. She was the second person I told I was pregnant, after my husband. As my pregnancy progressed, we got very close. I would visit her quite regularly; we would go to the market together to shop for our babies. We became a marvel to many, regularly walking side by side with our big tummies!

However, the most important thing is that we would encourage and uplift each other ’s spirits when either of us was down. I remember a time I found her at her house washing dishes just after she had been discharged from hospital and ordered to be on bed rest. I felt the fitter, and went on to ignore my own tired frame to help her clean up. It seemed to make her day. and made me feel great that l could be of help. At one time she got complications, and I would feel as though I was heading the same way. I was as worried as she was about her well being.

There is nothing as good as walking through pregnancy with someone close to you. Whether that person is your husband, your friend or sister, companionship during pregnancy is exciting and much needed.
