First Word 27
Hi
I have been asking myself why I make a point of being at the right place at the right time, why I strive to deliver my assignments at their appointed time, why I get up early to beat the jam, why I restrain from giving someone a piece of my mind, why I follow the doctor’s instructions to the letter, why I slow down to get a grasp of the cover’s details of a selfhelp book, why.., The modest reason is, courtesy. The selfless virtue that says it is all about those around you.
However, getting into all earnestness, I come across some big truth. That I do most of what I do for myself – to stay out of TROUBLE. Trouble being anything that brings me pain, embarrassment, confusion, sorrow among other negative feelings.
But what happens when you have done all to do to stay dear of problems, only to find them right in your face and budging an inch? Many times there are a few things that can be done to shove aside the issues and steer you to dry ground – like what most of what Pregnant’s columns do. And there are times no formula can shift your trouble from the path, leaving you with walking through it as the only option.
And in the process, the deep seated power in you (which steps in when your body, mind and even those around you fail to get you out of that kind of trouble) takes the driver’s seat to restore your lost peace and wholeness.
Faridah Hassan and Yvone Ndinda have such stories in this Issue’s 9 Month’s Journal and Facing Life columns. Stories that walk you through the almost-crippling effects of trouble only to realize that being pregnant is still one of the best experiences on earth.
So, happy expectancy!
