Susan Kamau – ‘I can’t wait for her to talk to me!’

She graced Pregnant Issue 8 Cover. Her baby girl, Martha Wambui Muchori (pictured with both her dad and mum on opposite page), was born on 4 August 2007.

Martha’s eleven months old now and I can’t spend enough time with her! I find myself zooming from the office straight home at 5p.m. instead of going for my favorite treat (warmed brownies and ice cream) as I often used to before. I constantly think about her and have to try hard not to get into the paranoia that something will happen to her.

Once, at 4 weeks old, she fell off the sofa while trying to put her big toe in her mouth—but I admit that was more funny than frightening! When I am with her you would think there was an adult in the room with me because I do not baby-talk with her…

I just can’t wait for Martha to talk back to me! It’s amazing to think that she was inside me.

My biggest challenge since having Martha has been time management. I am very busy outside of the home. At the same time I have always been more of a home-body than anything else, and have always done my own house chores. Now I have 3 different people coming to the house to help me with them. This gives me even more time to spend with her.
