Mary Mackenzie-‘Thoughts of my baby always fill my mind’

Mary graced Pregnant issue 11 Valentine’s cover. Her baby boy, Tyler Mackenzie (pictured with her), was born on 7 February 2008

Being a first time mother is very exciting. My baby loves eating! I breastfeed him on demand which seems like always; I have however become accustomed to it.

I had to go back to work after two months, at which time I introduced him to formula. Although he did not like it, he adjusted a few weeks later and nowadays, he takes it without a problem. I am also planning to start weaning him and have already started giving him baby rice.

Tyler Mackenzie

Tyler is not fussy; he only cries when he is hungry or sleepy. He is also growing very fast—and currently weighs about 12 Kgs. Yet he is only five months old! What I love most about my baby is the way he smiles. He started smiling when he was only one month old. He also knows how to express his dislike for something by frowning instead of crying. However, he is generally a quiet baby who has very nice big blue eyes.

The first month he was sick

I have not experienced any challenges with my baby apart from the first month when he was sick after he swallowed meconium at birth. I made sure that no one touched him and we had to stay indoors for the entire month. 8ut I believe we coped well with the difficulty.

I also have a nice househelp who bonds well with my child. When they are together, she usually talks to the child and this has helped Tyler respond well to her.

My life has changed tremendously

My life has changed tremendously since I got my baby. I have to be at home before 4 p.m.. every evening, whereas before I would get home between one and two a.m. My baby is always on my mind and I call home often to find out if he is okay. I always remember to get something for my child every time I go out shopping.
