As usual, we have something for everyone. For babies who are still weaning, there is an array of dishes that will be a hit with mommy too since they are not so involving. These are quick recipes that require little or no cooking and are healthy too.

Mocha float

Kids are known to generally have a sweet tooth. Without indulging them too much to induce tooth decay, here is a way to treat them in a healthy way this hot season.

INGREDIENTS
(serves one)

1. 1 teaspoon drinking chocolate powder.
2. 1/4 teaspoon instant coffee powder.
3. 1/2 teaspoon castor sugar.
4. Soda water.
5. 2 small scoops of chocolate ice-cream.

METHOD

In a 300ml tumbler, combine the first three ingredients. Gradually add enough soda water to fill glass three-quarters full, stir vigorously until sugar is dissolved.

Add chocolate ice cream, stir, serve with straw.

Peas and cream soup

This is a delicious soup for babies and is a complete meal on its own since it qualifies for a three-course meal rolled into one.

Ingredients

1. Boiled 400gms of peas.
2. 150ml cream.
3. A bunch of spring onions.
4. 10gms butter.
5. Salt to taste.

Method

1. Wash the onions under clean running water and chop them finely.
2. Fry in a heavy-based pan until brown, then add the peas.
3. Cook for 5 minutes, then add 1/2 litre of water.
4. Let it reduce the liquid for about 8 minutes then add the cream and salt.
5. Pour it into a blender and blend to fine puree.
6. Serve warm.

Yummy Chocolate Smoothie

Smoothies are such a nice way of winding things down after a long hot day out there and you can make them with so much more than just what we are using, e.g. use yoghurt and fruits of your choice. They are easy to make too, so get out the ice-cream and the sauces and let’s whip out one. Making your smoothie at home is healthy because you know what’s going into it and making it is fun for the kids too because they help put together the ingredients.

2 scoops Chocolate ice cream
1 scoop Vanilla ice cream
500ml Milk
2tbsp Milo
3tbsp Chocolate sauce

How to prepare

This is quite simple to make because you simply put everything together and blend.
