Help Your Kid Grow to be Respectable

IT is the role and responsibility of parents to facilitate desirable personalities in their babies. Indeed, parents want their kids to grow into responsible, well mannered persons. Apparently, this is the epitome of child rearing.

It is during the early days that a child learns proper behaviour as well as respect for themselves and others. During early childhood, the child is highly receptive to moulding because he or she is not yet opinionated or influenced by his or her surroundings.

Generally, children start learning as well as being acquainted with things as early as nine months. The kind of mannerisms and speech behaviour they adopt depends greatly on the environment in which they are growing up.

An environment, for instance, full of bustling children can help the child grasp things faster. The inverse is also possible. However, the company of other children, if left unchecked, can have a good or bad influence on your child depending on the kind of ideals and morals their parents are imparting on them.

Be good role models

At 12 months, children are just learning to walk and talk. They easily grasp what they see or hear from their immediate environment and use it! Therefore, parents should try as much as possible to avoid name-calling or arguing in front of the child.

Be watchful as your baby grows

Get involved in every step of your child’s life. As much as you might be busy with your career, create enough time for your baby.

An involved parent would definitely realise if their kid expresses certain undesirable character traits, and thereby easily correct them.

Nevertheless, as the baby grows up, bestow upon her care and love. Be attentive to all her needs. Doing this through all stages of the child’s development and growth will instill these same important virtues that you have demonstrated: love, care and attention.

Build a spirit of independence

Independence is very crucial in terms of social development of a child. Later in life it becomes a strong trait in gaining economic self-reliance.

There is a tendency, especially for new mothers, to ‘baby’ their child for too long, sometimes leading to a baby who can never be left on their own or even with people other than the parents.

It is wise to train the baby at a tender age to think, believe and act independently and responsibly.

Instill a sense of family identity
One of the key foundations of a responsible person is identity. When a child knows who they are. where they belong, who is mum and who is dad: and what are the family’s capabilities and limitations, they gain an identity and self-respect. Let your child know from the very beginning that what happens in family x or y does not necessarily have to happen in your family.
