1+1=11? You have the answer

For many of us, homework has never been fun, and every time the teacher asked us to take down a few sums for homework, our spirits immediately sunk, especially if this was a subject that we didn’t like. Believe it or not, your child may not be the exception to the rule. However, it is your duty to ensure they understand the importance of doing their assignments and even look forward to them. These pointers should help you in getting the homework not only done, but also ensure that it has rewarding effects on your child.

Put aside some time to help your child do homework every day. If the child has no homework, use that time to review what was done in school that day. This will set a good foundation for great study habits.

Set up a specific time and stick to it.This rule should become a habit that you follow dutifully.

Engage your child’s imagination as you do the homework. They easily get bored and distracted. So a few interesting real life questions related to the subject should help you along. Remember to come back to the topic after these little sidelines.

It is better to do homework later in the evening rather than right after school when your child is tired and in  need of a break from books. Study time done later in the evening also forces them to use their memory a bit more in recalling what the teacher taught during the day.

Review the previous day’s assignments and the current one, and ask them what they have learnt. This is a great way to exercise their memory from an early age, which will help them in future. Keep all distractions to a minimum. Switch off the television and keep away toys.

Assess the workload given to your child and give them breaks in between assignments. Ensure you and your child step away from work for a while before resuming.

Do not spoon-feed your child by giving them the answers; rather let them work through the problem by themselves. Learning that is more effective will take place this way and they will build confidence in their own abilities.

Give them your positive support instead of using rewards to make them do the work. Only reward when
there is remarkable improvement in a particular area.
