Keep Close during Pregnancy!

Time to celebrate with each other
Have you ever heard of a woman who strayed from her husband because she was pregnant? To many, that is unthinkable. Yet when one talks of men straying from their pregnant wives, a number of heads will nod in agreement as if to say, ‘there is a probability’.

Pregnancy is supposed to be a couple’s ultimate signature of sexual union, the one thing that ought to bring them close together in awe, expectation and love for one another. And there are many reasons why a man and a woman having come together and made a baby, should live this dream especially if they are husband and wife.

No obvious relationship between pregnancy and adultery
Trying to link pregnancy and adultery may be tantamount to justifying or giving credence to the suggestion that a man is ‘allowed’ to stray because his wife is not ‘available’ for sexual intimacy. A man who drifts sexually while his wife is pregnant probably already strayed before, or would stray anyway whether she is pregnant or not.

It is also likely that the behaviour of some pregnant women-blame the hormones-may drive their men away, especially when the man starts feeling frustrated that he does not ‘understand’ his wife any more.

Coming to terms with reality
It may sound quite selfish that a man may expect as much sex, food and attention from his pregnant wife as he would before she conceived. That unfortunately may be the harsh reality.

There are many theories, myths, as well as taboos about dangers of sex during pregnancy and the harm it may bring upon a foetus. Some men believe this; however they do not believe they can survive for months without getting intimate with ‘someone’.

As for food, that surely is a lame excuse. A man who cheats a his pregnant wife simply because she could not cook nearly as regularly or as well as she used to before pregnancy is selfish to the last bone! Unfortunately, this ‘simple’ matter has shattered very stable homes.

One man, John, says that he was unhappy with his pregnant wife because ‘most of the time she did not feel like cooking.’ He opted to buy fast foods when she did not cook, but a time came when he could eat French fries no more!

Now as he looks back he agrees that he acted rather foolishly. They have a kitchen in the house, he has two hands and a good brain, too. So why, he wonders, did he not cook his wife and himself a meal then?

John also confesses that he fussed over his unwashed clothes. He ‘almost’ got himself another wife! Now as he reflects about it he remembers how his wife battled with nausea and vomit, and later visited hospital with oedema and back pains. When the baby finally came, he celebrated in a bar with ‘the boys’.
