What a family!

Irene Kinuthia started persuing her Diploma in Business Administration when she was seven months pregnant with her first son, Davy. Five years later, she had another son. Irene feels truly blessed.

Carrying Davy’s pregnancy during school was not planned. At first I found it hard to cope being a regular student, having a family and a pregnancy. There were college CATS and antenatal appointments to keep up with. And there was some uncomfortable abdominal pain resulting from walking the long stretch from the bus-top to the college.

There were times I missed classes because of antenatal appointments, shopping for the baby, sickness or general weakness in the mornings. I had to pray for the wisdom to balance. That saw me wake up early to allow for time for private study before classes started. After classes I would quickly head home to have time to rest with my husband and also perform family duties. Come exam-time, the Saturday discussion groups came in handy.

In the meantime, my hubby, Nick, was remarkably supportive. His financial backing had me lack nothing. His constant encouragement and deepened love were the source of my strength to carry on. I’ll love him always.

Baby Tintin
I had finished college when I discovered I was pregnant again. This time, I was well prepared, or so I thought-until I got a call for an interview when I was two months pregnant. As I waited to be called, morning sickness reared its head and I rushed to the washrooms. I went back to the reception area just in time to be called in. After a few fumblings, I impressed them; because days later I was told the job was mine.

Robert, who we call Tintin, was 4kg after a normal delivery. When he was five weeks, his nostrils started blocking at night. I was advised to use some medication which worked perfectly on him. There were times that breast milk was too much for the boy that I ended up having painful swollen breasts.

Our Moments
When Tintin touches my cheeks with his tender hands, he transfers this special happiness that makes me thank God for him. He is active, lovely and always smiling.

Shivers
It scares me when he is alone with his older brother, Davy. Davy excitedly plays with Tintin as he would with his school friends. So I always keep a hawk’s eye as they play.

Back to work
I worried that Tintin could not make it without me. I kept on calling my house-help at home asking how he was doing; if he was crying for me, if his diapers had been changed,if he had fed and the like. But there was always some reassurance because I knew my house-help was competent.

Great house-help
I am thankful about a consistent house-help. I have been with her for four years now. She is caring, respectful and she loves my sons.

Thanksgiving
I am grateful to God for allowing these two precious lives to grow inside me, and giving me strength to raise them on earth. I would like to be their best example. It is my prayer that they will grow to be God fearing, healthy, loving and responsible boys.
